I’m proud to announce the release of a timeless, classic Nova Scotia folk song,  “If I Were A Blackbird”, in a lyric music video. This beloved folk song of Nova Scotia was collected by Helen Creighton from the Armstrong twins, Alister and Judson, around 1950 in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia.

If I Were a Blackbird is a beautiful forbidden love folk song that appears to have originated in Ireland. The traditional Celtic versions, known as the Irish If I Were a Blackbird folk song are also called The Blackbird and are still very popular today in Celtic folk music scenes worldwide. The traditional Celtic versions or the the Irish I Were a Blackbird are sung to a different melody and lyrics than the Nova Scotia variants.
